At St. Andrew’s, we believe all our children (from EYFS to Y6) are entitled to an ambitious, knowledge-rich English curriculum that ensures they will become fluent readers and writers; this means they will be able to confidently access the next stage of their learning journey, whether that be the next unit of work, the next year group, or transition to secondary school.

Our English curriculum is driven by a canon of high-quality texts: this is the stimulus for all our reading and writing. Our texts have been carefully sequenced and chosen to engage our children, as well as lead to the development of the personal and cultural capital of children at St. Andrew’s. We believe that in order for our children to leave St. Andrew’s as successful learners, they need to have knowledge and experience of a range of these texts.
