Welcome to Year Five...

Welcome to Year 5!

We have a jam-packed, exciting and challenging year ahead of us with a variety of topics and trips, including our residential visit to Thorpe Woodlands in Thetford!

The Year 5 teachers this year are, Mrs Cooper and Mrs Cole (Peterhouse) and Mr Lebbon (Newnham). We also have Mrs Palmer and Mrs Davies-Chandler  working in the Year 5 classes. Throughout the term, Year 5 children receive specialist teaching in  PE (Ms Bennett)and Music (Mrs Bell).

We will be studying a range of topics, from The Stone Age to Iron Age, Australia and Politics and Parliament.  We will be making visits to the Houses of Parliament as well as welcoming in visitors to our classroom whenever we can.

Homework and Reading Expectations

It is important that all children continue to read to and discuss texts with an adult on a regular basis. Reading records must be signed by an adult to confirm that daily reading has been done.  Children need to bring their reading records and reading books into school every day. Signed reading records must be handed in on Monday with five reads, in addition to homework books.

Homework is given out on a weekly basis (Wednesday due on Monday) where children choose an option from the menu. The homework menu will be changed on a termly basis. We expect the children to produce high quality and well-presented work.

At the end of mathematics topics, children may also be required to complete My Maths online homework, however we do encourage the children to practise their maths skills using My Maths on a regular basis. Children’s usernames and passwords can be found in the back of their homework books.
